Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar has recently completed its first shakedown at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, marking a significant milestone in its development.

Developed by Genesis Magma Racing in collaboration with chassis partner ORECA, the GMR-001 is set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) starting in 2026, with an IMSA SportsCar Championship debut planned for 2027. The car features a twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a hybrid system, designed to meet LMDh regulations.

The shakedown involved drivers André Lotterer and Pipo Derani, who had previously conducted simulator sessions to calibrate the car’s virtual model. This initial track outing allowed the team to verify mechanical and electrical systems, setting the stage for an extensive testing program across various European circuits in the coming months

Genesis Magma Racing’s technical director, François-Xavier Demaison, emphasized the importance of this phase, stating that each test run is crucial for refining the vehicle’s performance. The team is also transitioning into their new facility at Le Castellet, which will support ongoing development efforts

Satisfied for the data collected

Genesis Magma Racing team expressed satisfaction with the initial shakedown of the GMR-001 Hypercar. Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul described the event as “incredibly exciting,” noting that seeing the finished car run as planned was a significant milestone after months of preparation.

Technical Director François-Xavier Demaison emphasized the value of the test, stating that every bit of running in 2025 is extremely valuable. He credited drivers André Lotterer and Pipo Derani for their simulator work, which provided a solid foundation for the shakedown.

Lotterer shared his enthusiasm on Instagram, referring to the GMR-001 as “our beast” and celebrating its first run. Pipo Derani also expressed admiration for the car’s appearance, calling it “absolutely stunning” in its bare carbon fiber form

Overall, the team viewed the shakedown as a successful step forward in their development program.
