Verstappen to race a 718 GT4 at the Nurburgring
He hadn’t even finished the Monza F1 race—winning it with grit against the lightning-fast McLarens—when Max Verstappen was already thinking about the following weekend. No, we’re not talking about the next F1 race in Baku in two weeks.
Verstappen will be taking part in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS) endurance series this weekend as a test for his racing license. That’s right: this race will serve as an initial evaluation by the German national series in order to grant him the necessary license to officially compete in a GT3 race. We had anticipated this several weeks ago, when it still seemed like an entirely impossible rumor — and yet, here we are. … Verstappen ready to join the NLS on 13-14 semptember?
Max Verstappen has long expressed interest in taking part in events of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) and potentially the famous 24 Hours of Nürburgring. However, to do so, he must first obtain the DMSB Nordschleife permit, which is required to compete in these races. To earn this permit, Verstappen must fulfill several requirements, including participating in smaller races—such as two events totaling 14 laps—without receiving any penalties or making contact with other competitors.
Porsche 718 GT4 Lionspeed for Verstappen?

As Alex Brundle pointed out, these requirements are designed to ensure that drivers have enough experience on the challenging Nordschleife circuit before taking part in official events. While the idea of “requirements” might sound amusing when it comes to someone like Max, the rules must apply to everyone equally. Only after completing this test will he be able to display his Platinum driver license—a status reserved for F1 champions.
Verstappen in the Green Hell
It’s official that Max Verstappen will take part in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) this weekend (September 13–14, 2025) behind the wheel of a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS with Team Lionspeed. Regulations require him to compete in two lower-category races before moving up to GT3. That means he’ll need to join one session on Saturday and another on Sunday. We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty confident he’ll manage it—maybe even while enjoying a plate of spaghetti.

Verstappen has already tested a Ferrari 296 GT3 from Emil Frey Racing at the Nürburgring under the pseudonym “Franz Hermann,” showing impressive pace on the circuit. However, he still needs to complete the required formalities to obtain the permit. While it’s unlikely he’ll race again under the Franz Hermann alias, he also won’t be allowed to compete with the stunning 296 GT3 just yet.
