Toro Rosso STR14-04: rare F1 Car Up for Auction

Turbo-hybrid F1 cars rarely go up for auction. Especially since they contain still-current technology and have a podium finish with Pierre Gasly. Moreover, driving them on track as a private owner is extremely challenging due to the car’s complexity and advanced systems. This makes the 2019 Toro Rosso STR14-04, which actually competed in races, an exceptionally rare opportunity for collectors.

The STR14 delivered Toro Rosso’s best result of the decade, with Pierre Gasly securing a sensational 2nd place at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, his first career podium. This performance cemented the car’s place in modern F1® history and remains one of the team’s most memorable moments before its transformation into AlphaTauri and later Racing Bulls (VCARB).

Gasly also drove the car in eight other races, scoring points in four of them. Prior to him, the STR14 had been driven by Alex Albon in 12 races, earning points five times and achieving a 6th place in Germany. This chassis was the “sister car” to the one driven by Daniil Kvyat throughout the 2019 season, who managed a podium at the German Grand Prix, finishing 3rd.

Race-used F1® chassis from the turbo-hybrid era (post-2014) rarely become available for private ownership. Finding a car that not only competed but also scored a podium makes this STR14-04 a true and rare treasure for collectors and enthusiasts.

Auction Details and Included Package of the Toro Rosso STR14-04

Unfortunately, the Honda engine is no longer installed in the car and is not included in the price. At the end of the season, the engine was sent back to Honda in Japan for retirement and refurbishment.

The car is currently located in the United States, where the auction will take place. Along with the car, the new owner will receive two steering wheels – one original race wheel and one used for transport – as well as two sets of tires and a spare rear wing included in the package.

The starting price of the auction is €450,000, but it is very likely that the final amount will exceed this figure. It is not easy to find turbo-hybrid era cars in such condition and, above all, available for sale
