New Bmw M3 G84 hybrid or electric?

The next Bmw M3 generation will be loud

The first confirmations are coming from Munich on the next evolution of the highly anticipated BMW M3 G84. It will be the ultimate sports sedan from the Bavarian brand.
While many car manufacturers are now focusing on fully electric vehicles, often facing heavy market losses, Munich has chosen a wiser path.

Under the hood of the future Bmw M3 G84, a powerful gasoline engine will continue to roar. But likely paired with a mild hybrid system. This solution allows for reduced emissions without giving up what brand enthusiasts truly seek: character, sound, and genuine performance.

The lineup is expected to include an inline-six engine, a symbol of BMW tradition, present since the legendary M3 E36. This continues the evolution that began when the four-cylinder S14 of the first M3 E30 was retired.

The updated 3.0-liter S58 twin-turbo engine, featuring the mild hybrid system, will initially offer a total output of around 525 horsepower. Set to rise to about 560 horsepower with future developments from the manufacturer.

Many consider this to be the last M3 with a combustion engine before the full electrification of the lineup. However, there will always be a portion of the market eager to enjoy the deep, powerful sound under the hood.

The current G80 will continue production in Munich until March 2027, while the future G84 could see its first models on the market by mid-2028. The new M3 will likely be built at the Dingolfing plant, just outside Munich, the historic home of BMW Motorsport.

Record sales for Bmw V8 engines but electric is a possible choice

Although BMW recently reported record demand for V8 engines. it seems unlikely that Munich will choose this solution for the mid-range segment. Fitting a V8 would mean around 700 horsepower under the hood, a figure sure to excite any enthusiast

BMW has announced that in the near future a fully electric version will also be available alongside the hybrid model. The goal is to offer the market more choices, increase customer flexibility, and advance the ecological transition with intelligence and graduality. A decision we agree with: electric should remain an option, not a mandate.
