Ferrari Testarossa 849: the legend is reborn on the SF90 platform, featuring an innovative design that follows the path introduced with the F80. Do you like it? Let us know!

It’s finally a reality—perhaps even a bit of a surprise. It’s an extreme evolution of the SF90 Stradale and a modern tribute to one of the most iconic names in Ferrari history. Maranello has unveiled a car that blends the brand’s pure racing DNA with the most advanced hybrid technology, in a mix of power, elegance, and tradition.

The beating heart of the Prancing Horse.

Based on the architecture of the SF90, the new Testarossa features the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with three electric motors, delivering a combined output of over 1,000 horsepower. The performance figures are astonishing: 0 to 100 km/h in around 2.3 seconds, a top speed exceeding 340 km/h, and instant throttle response thanks to the electrified all-wheel drive.

The hybrid setup contributes 170 hp from the electric motors. Added to the 830 hp from the combustion engine, creating that magic number we mentioned above. With 842Nm of peak torque, the acceleration pins you to the seat from the very first launch. And when you get behind the wheel—let us know if we’re wrong…

All of this comes together beautifully, we must say: the new Maranello supercar lapped the Fiorano circuit in 1:17.500. For production cars, the previous record was held by the SF90, which clocked in at a flat 1.19.000. The Ferrari Testarossa 849 is clearly an evolution in terms of performance. The absolute lap record at Fiorano still belongs to Michael Schumacher in the F2004, stopping the clock at exactly 1:00 minut: but that belongs to the realm of legends.

If you want, it stays silent.

As with recent supercars, the electric motor can also be used independently, allowing for fully electric driving for up to 25 km. It’s a feature that might make some purists raise an eyebrow—especially on a model that brings back the legendary Testarossa name. But progress often comes with innovations that spark debate. Time will tell…

For an additional €50,000 over the base price, which is expected to be around €400,000, customers can opt for the Assetto Fiorano package, just like on other road-going models. Thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber, weight is reduced by around 50 kg, bringing the dry weight down to 1,520 kg.

What about the design of the new Ferrari Testarossa 849?

From a styling perspective, the design is a modern reinterpretation of the iconic 1980s Testarossa, featuring more sculpted lines, reworked side air intakes, and active aerodynamic solutions inspired by Formula 1. As always, the interior blends luxury and sportiness, with premium materials and an advanced digital interface.

Basing our perception on what should be an evolution of the SF90, we still need time to get used to this new design. Starting with the flagship Ferrari F80, it seems that Maranello is pushing toward sharper, more angular lines, moving away from the smoother, flowing shapes that began with the 488.

That said, the original 1980s Ferrari Testarossa was indeed very angular and bold in its design. We’re just not entirely sure whether bringing that aesthetic into 2025 truly makes sense — only time (and the market) will tell.
