Toyota has unveiled the first images of its updated Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar for the 2026 season. Showcasing key technical updates and giving a glimpse of how the team plans to tackle the upcoming World Endurance Championship

Earlier today, the public got a look at backlit photos of the updated car. The most visible changes are aerodynamic modifications, particularly at the rear. The rear wing is now slightly more curved, designed to optimize airflow and enhance on-track performance. As with BMW’s Hypercar, these updates will be tested next week at the Paul Ricard circuit.

The front end has also received significant generational updates. The new headlight contours highlight important changes, while the wheel arches have been redesigned to improve heat dissipation during braking. From the side, a technical detail stands out. The fin above the engine cover now features a serrated edge toward the end, resembling a small step. It’s engineered to further optimize aerodynamic flow toward the rear of the car.

It will be crucial for Toyota to analyze the mistakes of the 2025 season to understand where to intervene and what to focus on for WEC 2026. The Japanese manufacturer has consistently shown it can deliver top results, and this season can be seen as a transitional and development period.

Ferrari, Porsche, and Cadillac have challenged Toyota, often hampered by an unfavorable BoP, which affected performance in many races. The final round in Bahrain will be pivotal: it will reveal whether Toyota can implement final updates ahead of 2026, or if all changes will be postponed to the next season.

2024 Wec World champions

At the end of the 2024 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, Toyota Gazoo Racing secured the World Constructors’ Championship in the Hypercar class. Despite a challenging start to the season, the team recovered strongly. Culminating in a decisive victory at the 8 Hours of Bahrain, the final race of the year. The No. 8 car, driven by Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa, beat Porsche and Ferrari to clinch the constructors’ title with a total of 190 points, ahead of Porsche (188) and Ferrari (177)
