The FIA Formula 2 Championship has a new world champion. Leonardo Fornaroli, who clinched the 2025 crown after the Feature Race in Qatar with Invicta Racing. He is the first Italian to win the title since Davide Valsecchi in 2012. He is Italy’s first F2 world champion in over a decade

The 32‑lap race in Qatar was relatively calm, with few surprises: only one safety car interrupted the action, and while some drivers tried to exploit a pit stop under that situation, none managed to challenge Fornaroli seriously. He conquered a P2 only behind Victor Martins.

In 2022, he made his mark in FRECA, claiming the rookie championship, and in 2023 he debuted in F3, finishing 11th. Last year, in 2024, he reached the pinnacle by winning the F3 title, before making the big step to F2 and clinching the 2025 championship. This progression highlights his talent, patience, and consistent growth year after year.

After the race, emotions poured out: “I don’t believe it . I don’t even know how this could happen and I’m so happy. I have no words, it’s unbelievable,” he said, visibly moved. On the cool‑down lap, the team informed him of the title win, triggering touching moments of pure joy.

Immediately after the race, personal congratulations followed: Kimi Antonelli, the other Italian driver, came down to the track to embrace his freshly crowned champion friend.
