Hamilton, that’s a bad new penalty for Monza
Today’s race saw Ferrari struggle significantly, mainly due to sheer bad luck. Both Hamilton and Leclerc failed to finish the race because of incidents—not mechanical failures, but rather human errors, which can happen.
The first came from Lewis Hamilton, who slightly overshot Turn 3, lost grip, and couldn’t regain control of the car, crashing into the barriers. The second incident involved Charles Leclerc, who had an unfortunate collision with Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, again in the same corner. Both Ferrari conquered today 0 points
Below are the two crucial moments.
And shortly after, the incident involving Charles Leclerc. Just back on track after his pit stop, his race ended when he could have realistically aimed for P5. Antonelli was handed a 10-second penalty by the stewards for the contact.
But if bad luck had perfect aim during the race, it certainly didn’t miss in the post-race either. Just a few minutes ago, it was announced that Hamilton has been handed a 5-place grid penalty for the next race in Monza, due to failing to respect double yellow flags during today’s Grand Prix.
Hamilton, 5-place grid penalty
The stewards’ decision came more than four hours after the checkered flag, a clear sign that even they weren’t too sure what to do. In our opinion, it might be a bit harsh. However, since the penalty couldn’t be applied to today’s final classification in Zandvoort, Lewis Hamilton will have to recover ground at Ferrari’s home race in Monza, where thousands of fans are hoping to see a strong result from the Prancing Horse.

Not the best season for Hamilton, who—after making history with Mercedes starting back in 2013—is now struggling at Ferrari. He’s finding it hard to gel with the car, especially in terms of driving feel, and the setup seems to clash with his driving style.
There are still plenty of races left in the season, so we’ll see if Ferrari can give him a more manageable car as the year progresses.
