Ferrari e-Vortex: the new test circuit in Maranello

Ferrari has decided to expand its facilities in Maranello with the creation of a new test circuit: Ferrari e-Vortex. A completely different concept from Fiorano track, the historic private circuit of the Prancing Horse. Since 1972, all Formula 1 cars, road models, experimental prototypes, and much more, have been tested here.

What Ferrari needed, however, was something different: an environment capable of further refining the driving dynamics of its road cars and studying their behavior in a wide range of conditions. The new e-Vortex was therefore created to fill a gap that, in recent years, had become a true necessity.

The new facility, 1,887 meters long with a 600-meter main straight, covers a total area of 37,351 m² and features lanes ranging in width from 6 to 14 meters.
To make testing more complete and versatile, Ferrari’s engineers designed some particularly interesting features. Two large banked corners with longitudinal slopes, ideal for studying aerodynamic load and stability under lateral forces, and two corners dedicated to handling. All this for an in-depth analysis of vehicle dynamics.

As for the surface, ordinary asphalt wasn’t chosen: the track is paved with porphyry, a volcanic rock with a typical reddish hue, much more resistant to abrasion and less prone to wear than standard road materials. A choice that’s not just aesthetic, but functional — ensuring consistent grip and more accurate data acquisition.

The project also aims to reduce on-road testing that Ferrari traditionally conducts around Maranello/Fiorano. This should help to limit local traffic. A type of traffic, to be fair, much appreciated by tourists who often chase the test cars with their phones as soon as they leave the factory.
With the new facility, however, measurements become more objective and controlled, thanks to the integrated data acquisition systems along the track. Road testing will still remain part of the process, essential for monitoring quality and long-term component durability.
The Ferrari e-Vortex complex also includes a dedicated workshop of around 1,000 m², designed for maintenance and preparation of the vehicles under test — making it a modern, self-sufficient facility.

More than just a track, the Ferrari e-Vortex represents a new chapter in the brand’s development philosophy. A place where tradition and innovation coexist, where the roar of combustion engines meets the silence of future electric supercars. In Maranello, history continues — just with a slightly different sound.
