We had already set the expectations, and surely everyone anticipated it: a McLaren was the fastest in FP1 of the F1 Zandvoort Dutch Grand Prix, with the second practice session currently underway. But we certainly witnessed some surprises this morning. Verstappen appeared to be slightly struggling with his Red Bull, just like Kimi Antonelli, as both ended up in the gravel. Here is the moment of Verstappen, shared directly from F1’s official X profile.

Ferrari failed to complete a decent session, finishing in P14 and P15, showing some difficulties adapting to the updated circuit. On the other hand, the two Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were surprising, placing third and fourth respectively behind Oscar Piastri. A solid performance also from Williams, with Albon finishing P5, and from the two Saubers of Bortoleto and Hulkenberg in P9 and P13.”

“In FP2, which ended just a few minutes ago, it was once again Lando Norris topping the timesheets with a benchmark of 1:09.890, followed closely by an excellent Fernando Alonso just 87 thousandths behind, confirming his competitiveness on this track. Third was the other McLaren of Oscar Piastri.

If one Aston Martin finished third, things went a bit worse for Lance Stroll, who crashed heavily in Turn 3, destroying the right side of his car. The mechanics will have to rebuild it ahead of tomorrow’s FP3.

If one Aston Martin finished third, the session went a bit worse for Lance Stroll, who crashed violently in Turn 3, destroying the right side of the car. The mechanics will have to rebuild it for tomorrow’s FP3.

It remains to be seen tomorrow whether the teams will try different setups in the final practice session, especially since rain is expected for qualifying and the race. The balance of power on track could shift entirely.
