F1: In Mexico Red Bulls brings 4 big updates

Just a few hours before the F1 Mexico Grand Prix qualifying, scheduled for 11:00 PM CET, all eyes are on the teams and their latest updates. On such a unique circuit, every technical tweak could make the difference. In particular Red Bull and Mclaren for the title fight

The Mexico City track, located over 2,000 meters above sea level, offers conditions unlike any other in the world. The thin air reduces both aerodynamic downforce and cooling efficiency, forcing teams to design specific solutions for engines and brakes to ensure proper heat dissipation.

The team that brought the most updates this weekend is Red Bull, which introduced four new components on the cars of Verstappen and Tsunoda. Most of the work focused on aerodynamic flows around the engine cover, with larger cooling slots to improve airflow. The brake system has also been revised, featuring custom-designed ducts to prevent overheating during the race.

Aereo and new floor solution for Red Bull Team

According to available information, changes were also made to the car’s floor, aiming to enhance airflow toward the rear and generate as much downforce as possible. It’s crucial at this kind of altitude, where wings tend to lose efficiency.

Red Bull stands out as the only team to have brought four major updates, a clear sign that the team still believes in the fight for the Drivers’ Championship.
Right behind them are Ferrari and Racing Bulls, both focusing on cooling improvements. Wider engine cover vents clearly visible on the sidepods.

Ferrari has also introduced a rear brake modification to optimize performance after the issues seen on Hamilton’s car in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Williams arrived in Mexico with just one update.
Carlos Sainz reported a good feeling with his car during the free practice sessions so far, confirming that impression with a P9 in FP2. Just five tenths behind Verstappen, who topped the timesheets.

Four teams, on the other hand, brought no updates at all. A choice that might make life a bit harder come race day. Among them are Haas and Aston Martin, already out of the title fight, but also two much bigger names: Mercedes and McLaren.

McLaren brings zero upgrades for the season finale.

According to several sources, McLaren is not expected to introduce any more upgrades for the remainder of the season. They will instead recycle components that worked well in the first half of the year and managing the lead currently held over Verstappen.
But there’s more: a shocking rumor has been circulating, suggesting that McLaren may have exceeded the 2024 budget cap. If officially confirmed in the coming days, it would be a sensational twist in the season finale.
