Assetto Corsa Evo, the Ferrari SF25 in the new update

Assetto Corsa Evo launched with a bold goal: raising the bar for semi-professional racing simulators right from its debut this summer. However, the PC Beta release didn’t go as smoothly as expected. The physics still needed plenty of update, and that made it hard for the game to win over users in the first months.

To make things worse, long-time fans were disappointed by the absence of the open-world mode promised by Kunos Simulazioni. Pre-release footage clearly showed players driving through real-world areas, such as the roads surrounding the Nordschleife in Germany. Yet, months later, that feature is still missing.

But things are finally moving: a brand-new update has just dropped, pushing the game to version 0.4 and bringing a wave of fresh content.

The top priority was fixing the physics and vehicle behaviour. The team had already attempted a few tweaks in previous patches, but nothing game-changing. With version 0.4, though, many testers might finally start smiling again.

The new update adds ten new vehicles, including a true highlight: the Ferrari SF-25 Formula 1 car, the same machine Maranello is using to finish off this year’s World Championship at Abu Dhabi. And it’s not alone: the F40 LM, the Porsche GT4 RS and several other gems join the roster.

4 new tracks including the Nurburgring Nordschleife

Track content also receives a massive boost. The long-awaited Nürburgring Nordschleife finally makes its appearance. An absolute must for any sim racing fan. The “Green Hell” arrives in five configurations, including the 24h layout, the GP circuit and, of course, the iconic 20.8 km loop used every year by thousands of enthusiasts for touristenfahrten laps. Some time ago, we talked about this while looking into a curious statistic: what nationalities rack up the most laps on the German track over the course of a year? Which country covers the most real-world kilometers? Here the full article

Alongside the Nordschleife, more great circuits join the game:

  • Oulton Park (2 layouts)
  • Road Atlanta
  • Monza

All of this comes packed with an almost endless list of improvements: better graphics, cleaner audio and vehicle physics that feel much more believable. It’s an update that should give the game that extra push it needed. Assetto Corsa Evo has huge potential, and the development team seems determined to bring it out properly.

Now there’s only one thing left to do: download version 0.4, fire up your setup and see whether this update will finally put a smile on the faces of those who’ve been testing it for months.
