Mclaren to renew the triple crown success

McLaren is writing a new chapter in motorsport history by announcing an unprecedented initiative: it will auction off three of its upcoming race cars, including the 2026 Formula 1 single-seater—one of the very cars that will be driven by either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri in the next season. The event, organized in collaboration with RM Sotheby’s (https://rmsothebys.com/) will take place on December 5th in Abu Dhabi, during the final weekend of the F1 season. Lucky buyers with deep pockets will have the chance to be the first to take part in such a groundbreaking opportunity. No team has ever allowed fans to own such significant memorabilia—especially before the cars even hit the track.

Something epic for a big buyer

For the first time ever, a Formula 1 team will sell a race car that has yet to hit the track. The most anticipated lot is the 2026 McLaren F1 car, set to debut in less than a year. However, the winning bidder won’t receive the actual car immediately—it will be delivered in 2028, after completing its competitive career.

In the meantime, the buyer will be granted a 2025 show car on lease and will enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with the official team. According to McLaren, the lucky owners will gain access to truly unique experiences, including VIP entry to restricted areas at F1 events for all upcoming seasons, and a private tour of the McLaren headquarters in Woking.

Not only F1: IndyCar and Hypercar McLaren cars for sale

In addition to the Formula 1 car, the auction will also feature:

  • The 2026 IndyCar, set to race in the iconic Indianapolis 500 with Pato O’Ward behind the wheel.
  • The future 2027 WEC Hypercar prototype, which will mark McLaren’s debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship and at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Zak Brown’s vision

According to McLaren CEO Zak Brown, this is a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts:
“These cars represent our future in the three major disciplines of motorsport. Those who purchase them will own a true piece of history—before it’s even written.”

With this move, McLaren not only aims to strengthen its presence across the world’s top racing series, but also reaffirms its ambition to achieve motorsport’s Triple Crown: Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

McLaren has set its sights on the coveted triple crown, which involves winning the F1 Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The Woking outfit is the only team to have clinched the prestigious achievement previously, after winning the Monaco Grand Prix in 1984 with Alain Prost, the Indy 500 in 1976 with Johnny Rutherford, and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1995 with JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya.
