Nissan GT-R, a new one-of-a-kind off-road version
Who hasn’t daydreamed about taking their own car off-road, even when it’s absolutely not meant for it? Come on, everyone has had that forbidden thought at least once. Like this incredible Nissan GT-R.
We took a spin on the Classic Driver website to learn more about this beast we’re about to tell you about.
Well, today we’re diving into a Supercar on paper, has about as much to do with off-roading as an umbrella in the desert. But what if someone actually turned it into a dune-eating monster?
Yep, it happened.
What we all only fantasize about, somewhere in the world they’ve done for real. They took a supercar and unleashed it off the beaten path. Probably inspired by Lamborghini’s Huracán Sterrato and Porsche’s 911 Dakar, someone decided that the GT-R also deserved its own wild, dirt-ready variant.
And here it is: the Nissan GT-R Off-Road.

A machine that, if you look closely, actually fits surprisingly well in rough terrain thanks to its AWD system. And its famously brutal V6 engine…
It just so happens that @autobedrijfwimprins is offering this outstanding Safari-modded example, ripe and ready for your next adventure. The upgrades include everything you’d expect from a proper off-roader. The car has been lifted just enough to avoid wrecking the underbody on rocks and obstacles, thanks to a set of fully adjustable suspension.
The wheels? Toyo Tires All-Terrain 4×4 — the kind that, when rolling on asphalt, make the same noise as an approaching tank.
Aside from the extra suspension travel, this Nissan GT-R has been fitted with a roof rack and a spare wheel, while night-time expeditions are made easier with a pair of integrated rally lights plus a roof-mounted light bar.
Now, what about power?
The 2007 model left Nissan’s factory with around 470 hp, a figure that increased over the years with later versions. This particular 2010 example pushes out 592 hp, a solid 120 more than the base version. Not bad for a “supercar gone safari”.
It has 54,000 km on the clock, but we know from experience that this engine handles mileage like nothing. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 is famously long-lived… and it’s also become something of a relic, since it’s now out of production. The GT-R is currently on pause, waiting for a next-gen model that may — may — arrive within the next couple of years.
That’s the current situation for the GT-R model

As a final touch, the owner even equipped the car with a Bose sound system, to make those long solo crossings in the desert a bit less monotonous. Although honestly… how could you ever get bored in a machine like this?
