Rumors are flying after GM’s design team dropped the sketch, and it looks suspiciously like a new Camaro. 👀

Chevrolet Camaro SUV Fears: Are They Just Rumors?

Concerns that the Camaro could become an SUV seem overblown. These fears mostly come from the trend of turning once-sporty cars into bigger, lifted family vehicles. Think Ford Puma or the Mitsubishi Eclipse, now known as the Eclipse Cross.

Chevrolet is expected to race a new car in the 2026 NASCAR season, replacing the current Camaro, which went out of production in 2023. Could these sketches be showing that new model? The long hood hints at a front-mounted V8, meaning no electrification. Just raw, traditional American muscle. And those rear exhausts? To the sharp-eyed, they could even be part of a wide diffuser.

The previous Camaro, discontinued two years ago, was a hit among fans, praised for sharper lines compared to the fifth generation. That styling could evolve even further with the 2026 version.

Previous Camaro Generation Highlights and Specs

The sixth-generation Camaro debuted in late 2015, offered in LT and SS trims on GM’s Alpha platform in Lansing, Michigan. The same used for the Cadillac ATS. It’s 91 kg lighter than its predecessor.

Engine options included a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four with 275 hp, a new 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp, and a 6.2-liter V8 LT1 producing 455 hp in the SS. The top-tier ZL1 packs a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 with 650 hp and 881 Nm of torque, borrowed from the Corvette Z06. Drivers can choose between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
