Williams: the new Texas livery recalls Bavarian F1 motorsport heritage
Let’s be clear: the FW47 livery Williams unveiled for the 2025 Austin GP in F1 is perhaps the most beautiful on the entire grid. Anyone who remembers the 2002 Williams FW24, powered by BMW, cannot fail to notice these colors. And if the team wanted to make us shed a little tear, they succeeded perfectly.
On Thursday, Williams presented, in a media-open event, the livery that will adorn the FW47 this Gp with a special guest. The former F1 star Juan Pablo Montoya. The Colombian driver, who won 7 GPs in 95 F1 races, was invited to highlight the connection between the Williams of the past and today’s team.

Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher raced the original livery
Only one thing has changed: the BMW logo is no longer present, the supplier at the time of the powerful 3,000cc V10 P82 engines. Yet the car closely resembles the 2002 FW24, which that year secured 1 victory and 7 pole positions in 17 races. Williams finished the season second in the Constructors’ Championship. Behind a “take-all” Ferrari: Schumacher’s F2002 finished more than 100 points ahead of everyone else.
Today, however, the situation is different. Williams, which had shown little strength in recent years, is gradually becoming competitive again. Drivers Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon are scoring valuable points for the Grove-based team, currently sitting 5th in the championship with a total of 102 points. This is the best result in the last eight years. Only in 2016 had Williams ended the season with 138 points, before entering a slow decline, now seemingly reversed this year.

A long road still ahead for Williams, chance for a F1 2025 historic finish

With six races still to go, the two drivers could still score important points and achieve a final result the team hasn’t reached in ten years. It would be a true sign of revival, one we wholeheartedly wish for the historic British team and the FW47.

In the meantime, the Austin Texas GP weekend awaits, where both cars reached Q3 yesterday. For today’s Sprint race, Sainz and Albon will start 7th and 9th, in the fourth and fifth rows respectively. A mid-grid position that could improve by taking advantage of battles ahead or mistakes by the competitors.
