F1 championship is still open for Verstappen

We’ve seen it many times: Max Verstappen seizes every opportunity to the fullest. Even though he’s currently far behind the McLaren duo leading the 2025 F1 championship, he has no intention of giving up. He showed this at Monza (Monza GP: Verstappen ends McLaren’s dominance) he doesn’t care if his car is less competitive. On Saturday and Sunday, he lowers his visor and gets the best possible result with what he has. Without him, Red Bull would have scored only 12 points (from Tsunoda), but Verstappen has racked up 230 points, with 7 podiums and 3 wins so far in 2025.

The gap inside the Austrian team is incredible but, honestly, it has always been that way. Red Bull has traditionally built the car around one of its drivers, and the second driver usually has to adapt. But Max Verstappen and his team are definitely a cut above the rest. At Monza, on Saturday, to gain more top speed and reduce aerodynamic drag, they manually trimmed the rear wing—a move they also used last year, which paid off big time: a new lap record on Saturday and the shortest race ever on Sunday. Max grabs everything.

Hunger and passion for motorsport will drive Max Verstappen this Sunday to race in the GT4 and GT3 categories at the Nordschleife, where the Dutch driver will compete in the NLS series (Langstreckenserie https://www.nuerburgring-langstrecken-serie.de/en/homepage/) driving a Porsche 718. Verstappen’s Title comeback

Now, let’s do some math regarding the 2025 F1 World Championship. For Max, winning the title is definitely almost impossible given the gap with only 8 races left. Many F1 fans are instead dreaming of a McLaren world championship, as the British team hasn’t won a title since 2008, when Lewis Hamilton edged out Felipe Massa on the last lap in Brazil.

With 8 full races and 3 sprint races left, let’s break down the numbers:

Available points:

  • 8 GPs x 25 points = 200 points
  • 3 sprints x 8 points = 24 points
  • Total available points = 224 points

Current standings:

  • Piastri: 324
  • Norris: 293
  • Verstappen: 230

Maximum points Verstappen can achieve:

230 + 224 = 454 points

To beat Piastri: Piastri must stay below 454 total points

454 – 324 = 130 points

Conclusion:

  • Verstappen must win ALL races and sprints to reach 454 points
  • Piastri must score no more than 130 points in the next 11 events (8 GPs + 3 sprints)
  • That means Piastri can average about 11.8 points per event (130/11) to stay ahead, or less to lose the title

Verstappen Vs Norris Vs Piastri

If this were to happen, it would be one of the most incredible comebacks of all time — actually, the most incredible ever in the history of the sport. But we all know that, although Max is currently the driver who makes us enjoy this sport more than anyone else, he also has a limit called McLaren. Oscar and Lando already have the Constructors’ Championship practically wrapped up (617 points vs. Ferrari’s 280 in second place), and they will have to battle on track to decide who takes the final trophy in Abu Dhabi.

Max, in the meantime, just entertain us at the Nordschleife this weekend, because if you raise the prestige and visibility of a category often overlooked, you’ve already won in our eyes.
