WEC Austin, Ferrari leads after 3H. Mistakes and retirements
The WEC 6 Hours of COTA is proving to be a race full of challenges and surprises, largely due to the heavy rain that has affected the Texan track since the early stages. With three hours completed and three remaining, the race is currently under Safety Car conditions, but forecasts suggest an imminent improvement: the rain is expected to ease in about 20 minutes, potentially setting the stage for a crucial second half of the race.

Ferrari setting the pace in the wet WEC
Leading the race is the #51 AF Corse Ferrari with Antonio Giovinazzi at the wheel, managing the extreme conditions perfectly. Right behind is the #6 Porsche Penske driven by Matt Campbell, trailing by just over a second, while Antonio Fuoco in the #50 Ferrari holds third place. It’s also worth noting that Fuoco set the fastest lap of the race so far, with a time of 2:06.771.
The top five is completed by Jaminet’s #5 Porsche and the yellow #83 Ferrari of Ye from AF Corse. The #38 Cadillac with Bourdais is in sixth, followed by the #94 Peugeot, the #7 Toyota, and the #35 Alpine in ninth.
Spin for Alpine, issues for Aston Martin, Toyota and Proton
Drama hasn’t been in short supply. The #35 Alpine suffered a spin that damaged the rear, while the #007 Aston Martin Valkyrie and the #99 Proton Competition Porsche also went off track in separate incidents, likely due to aquaplaning. While none of the accidents triggered a red flag, Race Direction opted for a prolonged Safety Car period to ensure safe conditions.
Weather update and what’s next

Weather remains a key factor. Currently:
- Air temperature: 23.8°C
- Track temperature: 26.7°C
- Humidity: 91%
Forecasts indicate that rain should ease within the next 20 minutes, but teams remain cautious. If conditions improve as expected, the final two hours could see thrilling battles between Ferrari and Porsche for the win.
It remains to be seen whether Alpine can recover from the damage, and whether Japanese and American teams can mount a comeback after falling behind earlier.
