Verstappen, discover Europe at 264km/h average

The Monza qualifying session left us incredibly surprised—not only because Red Bull managed to outpace the McLarens, but especially due to the average speed achieved by the Dutch driver. Verstappen completed his pole-winning lap at an astonishing average speed of 264.68 km/h. This is truly remarkable considering that, although Monza is very fast with its long straights, it also features some very technical and slow corners in the first sector: the first chicane and the Roggia chicane.

Moreover, we shouldn’t forget the immense pressure drivers face during qualifying, having to meet the high expectations of their team, fans, and sponsors all watching on TV. But when you’re consistently driving at over 260 km/h, there’s probably no time to think about anything other than the strip of asphalt right in front of you.

Verstappen Travel: How long would it take to travel between various cities?

Well, we wondered about this too—especially since many of you have just returned from vacation, whether by car, train, or plane. But considering that at the airport, if you have luggage, you need to check in almost 2 hours before departure, Verstappen might actually have been faster than any Airbus or Boeing on some routes. So, if Max had a clear road, how long would it take him to travel between cities?

For example, at this speed, you could get from Milan to Turin in just about 32 minutes, or Paris to Brussels in around 1 hour and 11 minutes. A trip from Berlin to Hamburg would take approximately 1 hour and 6 minutes, while Rome to Florence could be covered in just over an hour. Traveling from Vienna to Budapest would take less than an hour, about 55 minutes.

Longer journeys like Madrid to Valencia or London to Manchester would take roughly 1 hour 20 minutes and 1 hour 16 minutes respectively. For an even longer ride, Amsterdam to Frankfurt could be done in about 1 hour and 40 minutes, Prague to Munich in 1 hour and 26 minutes, and the stretch from Monza to Monaco would take close to 1 hour and 6 minutes

Total ravel time

  1. Milan – Turin (140 km): ~32 minutes
  2. Paris – Brussels (312 km): ~1 hour 11 minutes
  3. Berlin – Hamburg (289 km): ~1 hour 6 minutes
  4. Rome – Florence (274 km): ~1 hour 2 minutes
  5. Vienna – Budapest (243 km): ~55 minutes
  6. Madrid – Valencia (355 km): ~1 hour 21 minutes
  7. London – Manchester (336 km): ~1 hour 16 minutes
  8. Amsterdam – Frankfurt (440 km): ~1 hour 40 minutes

An airplane flies much faster (500-900 km/h), but between check-in, security checks, boarding, taxiing, and waiting at the gate, you can easily lose 1-2 hours before takeoff. If you compare just the flight time with Verstappen’s speed (264 km/h), he is slower, but considering all the extra time on the ground, on short routes (e.g., 200-400 km) you might find the Dutchman already waiting at your doorstep.
